Not MacCool

No cocktail in town is worth waiting more than 10 minutes for — especially if you have to perform a subtle strip-tease to get the bartender’s attention.
But there was Last Call last week, at Finn MacCool’s, standing tall against the bar, in clear view, and with an obnoxious cigar a-smolderin’ between two taut fingers. Still no bartendin’ lovin’.
Oh, well. Didn’t matter. This month-old venture isn’t Last Call’s kinda joint anyway. It looks like every other Eastern European-themed restaurant/bar on this side of the globe: draughts of Guinness up front, some nine-ball in the back, and lots and lots of wood paneling. The only thing that these kinds of joints have to separate themselves from their brethren is vibe; you know, like, a cool bartender from over there or a tv tuned to a bona fide Eastern European pastime, like “football” or sleeping, or a cool bartender from over there who also happens to moonlight as an underwear model. Y’know, vibe.
Long story short: If you’ve been to Shamrock Pub or Patty Red’s or any Fox and Hound, you’ve pretty much been here. Nothing too fabulous, nothing too offensive ... unless you count having to wait until you’ve smoked an entire 6-inch cigar to be served an Irish whiskey you could get — and a lot quicker — at Sardine’s.
