Bob Schneider

Pop is not a dirty word. Oh, no ó far from it. Still, fans of the band OH-no might be a tad uncomfortable with the connection their idols have apparently forged with boy-toy Chris Kirkpatrick of íN Sync. The singer has approached the Dallasites about signing to his label, Roundtable Records, and in an even more bizarre twist, heís been writing songs with OH-no frontman Steven Holt. Of course, Holtís no star-struck kid ó heís been through the biz wringer before, when his previous band Tablet inked a deal with Mercury. And his bandís bracing pop-rock stylings and powerful stage performance are strong enough to overcome such an un-hip association.

This weekend, the Aardvark pairs Holt and crew with another seasoned performer, eclectic Austinite Bob Schneider. It seems as though the smiling folks at Universal, who picked up his second solo album, Lonelyland, for distribution, have been trying to market the veteran of the jam-band wars as a pretty boy ŗ la John Mayer, and the two artists seem to appeal to the same demographic (e.g., Dave Matthews Band fans). Pretty weird for a guy who, as frontman for The Scabs, was responsible for songs like ďBig Butts and Blow Jobs.Ē Then again, those who have attended Steve Duncanís solo shows over the past few months have heard the Chemistry Set leader cover an enchanting song from an as-yet-unreleased Schneider c.d. So you never know.
