Hide the Cigar

No different than with fine wines, table manners, and traffic laws, Last Call is (unwittingly) doing its worst to understand the allure of the cigar.
OK, we all know the stogie fad was mashed into the ashtray of obsolescence about five years ago, but that’s actually the reason I’m drawn to the smoke now. I like to enjoy my crazes when nobody else is around.
My first stop on the hunt for cigar wisdom was, unfortunately, my last for a while. For years, Last Call has frequented Tobacco Lane. A fantastic shop a-waft in the aroma of sweet leaf, the Sundance Square establishment was all the cooler for its face, cigar aficionado extraordinaire and all-around good guy Zayd Jenkins. With his unlimited knowledge of The Smoke, infectious love of hip-hop, and ability to strike up, hold, and wrap up a casual conversation on anything from comic books to quantum physics, Jenkins was about as close to Obi Wan Kenobi as Leisure Cowtown’s ever seen. You could imagine Last Call’s pain on learning recently that Jenkins and Tobacco Lane have split. It’s as if the Fort Worth cigar party has been put indefinitely on hold.
The good news is that the New Jersey native won’t be gone long — we’re just not sure exactly where he’s gonna be on his return. “Watch me,” he said. “I’ll be open soon in the downtown area, so get your ass over.”
