We Know Where You Live

Worried about the predators out there cruising the chat rooms? Worry some more! Thanks to Google, it’s easier than ever for any web-surfing stranger to find out where you live. The giant search engine now spits out your name and address — as well as links to maps to your home — as soon as someone punches in your telephone number and hits “search.” (Works only for land lines, not cell phones.) In the recent past it took at least a few more steps and a little more internet savvy for a baddie to find your (formerly) cozy abode. Now that heavy breather can add that he knows where you live and tell you what roads he will take to get there, all with a single download. (Of course, if he can accurately describe the little yellow smiley faces on your silk PJs, maybe you have a different kind of privacy problem.) If you want your residential info to be just a little harder to find, hit the link with your phone number on it, and you’ll be brought to a page that allows you to have your address removed from Google’s phone book. That’s good to know — the papparazzi and autograph hounds would be such a bother if they were to sniff out the address of Static’s palatial digs.
