Deep-Dish Rush

To the editor: I am writing to respond to Angie Kaufman who wrote a letter to the editor titled "Going Far for Deep Dish" (July 21, 2004). Ms. Kaufman was disappointed that there isn’t any good deep-dish pizza in Fort Worth. She obviously hasn’t found Rush Street Diner on University yet. I’ve never had Chicago pizza in Chicago, but Chicago pizza in Fort Worth is the best. There is nothing else like it. I have been going to Rush Street for the amazing Italian beef sandwiches for a while, but recently my boyfriend insisted we get the pizza. I was a bit upset because the sandwiches are somewhat addictive, but wow, was I surprised at how good the pizza is! Now I have a dilemma when I go: Stuffed pizza or Italian beef? If I’m by myself, I get the beef, because the pizza weighs something like five pounds. But the pizza is fabulous with at least one other person (and the leftovers are great the next day). If the pizza in Chicago is better than Rush Street Diner’s, Chicago must be heaven (although I hear it is really cold up there).

To the editor: I would like to respond to this letter and advise Ms. Angie Kaufman to try a Rush Street pizza if she has not done so. Their deep-dish pizzas (not to mention their Italian beef sandwiches) are absolutely heavenly. Both of the owners, Chuck Carr and Rob Belcher, hail from Chicago and have all of their ingredients shipped from there as well. I think after a couple of slices not only will her tummy be full, but she’ll have a big smile on her face!
